about

This song is based on a conversation that I had with a whale while sailing across The Atlantic Ocean. We discussed the state of the ocean; how amazing it was but how it was being degraded. All the money raised from sales will go to whale and dolphin charities, including Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), Sea Watch Foundation and WhaleWise.

lyrics

The Whale's Song

From the slopes of Cabo Verde to the jungles of Brazil
Through phosphorescent waters that never could be still
The creatures of our fantasy cast cetaceans' spell on us
As we crossed the wide Atlantic following the Southern Cross

On the third day out I saw a sight I'd never seen before
A sperm whale leapt out from the sea and through the air did soar
The image seared into my brain and I can still recall
The vision of a behemoth fly like a cannonball

And the whale's song kept on haunting me on the long hot sleepless nights
We sailed a boat from Africa towards the Southern Lights
For fifteen nights and fifteen days it held us in its thrall
And the whale's song kept on haunting me as it pleaded with us all

And all day long there's flying fish from out the ocean clear
And lying in my berth at night the sea beneath my ear
Ten thousand feet of water and all the life below
Is slowly, surely dying – the great beast told me so

And the whale's song kept on haunting me on the long hot sleepless nights
We sailed a boat from Africa towards the Southern Lights
For fifteen nights and fifteen days it held us in its thrall
And the whale's song kept on haunting me as it pleaded with us all

We reached the far side of the sea - the coast of Salvador
And no trees grew, no bright birds flew for miles in from the shore
But people in their thousands bid us welcome to the land
Their plastic bags and bottles lying empty on the sand

And the whale's song kept on haunting me on the long hot sleepless nights
We sailed a boat from Africa towards the Southern Lights
For fifteen nights and fifteen days it held us in its thrall
And the whale's song kept on haunting me as it pleaded with us all

Slowly, surely dying!!!
